Yummy {Sweet Potato Pie} on a Maple Quinoa Crust

Let me just start out with this:    I am in love with this pie. It was all I had hoped for and more:

  • Tasted divine.
  • Perfectly cooked.
  • A quinoa crust success.

And Babycakes and I may or may not have had 2.5 slices for breakfast after yesterday morning's photoshoot... OK, we did, and it was awesome!!! And I didn't even feel that bad about "pie for breakfast" because, ... Read more » about Yummy {Sweet Potato Pie} on a Maple Quinoa Crust

Fabulous {Holiday Bread Pudding} w/cranberry bagels

As I mentioned in my recent Holiday Bark recipe post, I am in full-on holiday mode.  It's just a matter of days before the decorations come out. And soon we'll be heading out into the forest to chop down our tree.  I admit, I've already lit the pine "Christmas" candle...more than once. And Babycakes and I have started to listen to Christmas music in the car on our commute to work/school. ... Read more » about Fabulous {Holiday Bread Pudding} w/cranberry bagels

'Tis the Season + {Holiday Bark w/Toasted Quinoa}

I know. I know. Today's Halloween and it's going to be so exciting and everyone loves it. The costumes! The candy! But for me, Halloween just means it's almost the start of the real holiday season -- Christmas!! I couldn't be more excited about getting our first real Christmas tree FROM THE FOREST. Easy Homemade Salad Dressing: {Creamy Honey Sesame}

I've honestly never been much of a salad person. And if I am, it's mostly when eating out --- because there's just something about a salad at a restaurant that seems so much better than the one I'd make at home. That is, until now. What's the secret to great salads at home? 1) a variety of awesome toppings and 2) stellar homemade dressing. With those 2 things, you will be eating a lot more greens. I promise. And both are easy to achieve! ... Read more » about Easy Homemade Salad Dressing: {Creamy Honey Sesame}

Me Time + The Best Ever {Salmon Chowder}

Suffice it to say, with Babycake's being sick for almost 2 weeks, plus me getting said sickness, I have not had a lot of alone time. The first time I was able to take a shower by myself and sleep in my own bed in 9 days (rather than on my toddler's floor), it was like sweet freedom. So when my inlaws' offered to watch Babycakes on Saturday and keep her overnight, I said yes before they had time to change their minds :) What did I do with all this me-time?! Well, first I grocery shopped alone and savored the peace and quiet; then I went on a thrift store shopping tour with some girlfriends

Rinse Your Quinoa + {10 Yummy Quinoa Recipes}

Did you know you're supposed to rinse your quinoa 7 -8 times before cooking it? I asked this same question to my thousands of Facebook fans, and many had never heard that, let alone done it!!  Why is it important to rinse quinoa?  Because there is a detergent-like bitter coating on each quinoa seed, called saponin, which naturally protects the quinoa from birds and insects.  If this is not rinsed ... Flu Season + {Slow Cooker Tropical Chicken}

I don't know your stance on flu shots, but for me...there's usually about a 50 / 50 chance I'll get one. Not because of philosophy or the prediction for that year's flu season...no, it all depends on whether I'm already sick or not. More likely than not, by the time I get around to getting a flu shot, I already have a cold.  This year was one of those years that I was quite healthy and decided to go for it at the end of September. Babycakes and I both got one. Such planners!! ... Read more » about Flu Season + {Slow Cooker Tropical Chicken}
